Diagnosing & Treating Advanced Pet Issues
If troubled pets could talk, perhaps we could discuss why they were so upset about being left alone that they destroyed the room where they were staying. Or maybe we could better understand why it was necessary to be overly aggressive toward a person or another pet that was simply walking by.
Unfortunately, cats and dogs can’t communicate the reasons behind their behavior. That’s why it’s up to us to identify the underlying causes and develop solutions to address them.
Behavioral Veterinary Medicine
The first step in addressing a pet’s behavioral issue is to conduct a complete physical. By examining the pet patient and using veterinary diagnostic tools to conduct any necessary tests, we are able to identify potential health issues that may be contributing to a pet’s behavior.
Once physical causes have been ruled out or addressed, it’s time to examine what forms of treatment might be most beneficial for that pet’s specific circumstances.
We work closely with renowned pet behaviorist Veronica Sanchez from Cooperative Paws. Ms. Sanchez is a certified animal behavior consultant and a certified professional dog trainer. She has extensive experience working with all types of dogs and solving numerous behavioral issues.
While we address the veterinary side of therapy, prescribing pet medications when needed, she will work with pets and their owners using behavioral modification techniques.
Some of the pet behavior conditions that we treat include:
- Separation anxiety
- Obsessive behavior
- Fear phobias
- Inappropriate elimination
If your pet is experiencing an unusual or serious behavioral issue, please contact us for a consultation. Nothing is more important to us than the health, happiness, and well-being of our pet patients and their families. We will do everything we can to help.
My Mother and I have always taken all of our cats to T&C as well as Columbia Pike. Personally, I always see Dr Davis Hall and he is fabulous. I was blessed to find such a kind, caring, and knowledgeable doctor.
