24 Hour Emergency Care Through Our Trusted Partnership

Medical emergencies can happen at any time. When they do, knowing where to go and who is caring for your pet can make all the difference.

At Town and Country Animal Hospital, we are proud to partner with our sister hospital, Columbia Pike Animal Hospital and Emergency Center, to provide seamless, 24 hour emergency and critical care for our patients. In this Vet Video Series feature, Dr. Samantha Chang, Emergency Department Coordinator at Columbia Pike, takes pet owners inside their veterinary emergency room to explain what happens when a pet arrives in need of urgent care.

What to Expect in an Emergency

When you arrive at Columbia Pike’s emergency room, pets are immediately announced for triage so the medical team can assess how urgent the situation is. If a pet is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, care begins right away. Pet parents are placed in a private exam room and kept informed as the team gathers information and starts treatment.

Clear communication is a priority. Emergencies are stressful, and the emergency team works hard to explain what is happening, what diagnostics are needed, and what the next steps will be.

Advanced Emergency Diagnostics Onsite

One of the major advantages of our sister hospital is access to advanced diagnostics in one location. This allows emergency cases to move quickly without waiting on outside facilities.

Columbia Pike Animal Hospital and Emergency Center offers:

  • Digital X-rays with board-certified radiologist review

  • Ultrasound for detailed internal imaging

  • In-house CT for complex cases

  • A full-service laboratory with rapid results

  • Cytology with telemedicine consultation when needed

These tools help the emergency team reach answers faster and begin appropriate treatment sooner.

Emergency Surgery and Critical Care

For pets who require surgery, the emergency department is equipped with a fully monitored operating room, advanced surgical tools, and lifesaving support systems. Specialized oxygen units allow precise control of oxygen levels, temperature, and humidity for pets in respiratory distress.

The emergency team is trained and RECOVER Initiative certified, with crash carts readily available for immediate response in critical situations.

The Benefit of Sister Hospitals

Because Town and Country Animal Hospital and Columbia Pike Animal Hospital and Emergency Center are sister hospitals, our teams share medical records and work closely together. This means smoother communication, continuity of care, and a familiar standard of medicine, even during emergencies that happen after hours.

When your pet is seen at Columbia Pike’s emergency room, our teams stay connected so follow up care can continue seamlessly back at Town and Country.
