In this DVM Spotlight, we’re introducing Dr. Matt Novarr, a veterinarian whose lifelong love of animals shapes how he cares for every patient.
A lifelong connection to animals
Dr. Novarr’s path to veterinary medicine began on his grandfather’s farm in rural Connecticut. Surrounded by animals from an early age, caring for horses, cows, sheep, and even bottle-feeding an orphan lamb, animals were simply part of everyday life. Those early experiences made it clear that working with animals wasn’t just an interest, it was his calling.
After graduating from the University of Miami, Dr. Novarr earned his veterinary degree from Purdue University. Today, he values getting to know pets and their families over time, building lasting relationships and providing care through every stage of a pet’s life.
A special passion for senior pets
One area especially close to Dr. Novarr’s heart is senior pet care. Having cared for aging pets of his own, he understands the challenges and emotions that come with this stage of life. Helping older dogs and cats stay comfortable, supported, and enjoying a good quality of life is one of the most rewarding parts of his work.
Fear Free, comfort-focused care
Dr. Novarr is Fear Free Certified and prioritizes reducing stress and anxiety at every visit. When appropriate, pets may receive medication before their appointment to help them feel calmer. Exams, treatments, blood draws, and vaccines are often done in the exam room with pet parents present, and you’ll often find Dr. Novarr on the floor with patients, helping them feel safe and at ease.
