Today, we are excited to spotlight one of our talented doctors from Columbia Pike Animal Hospital and Emergency Center, Dr. Andrew Nguyen.
A Northern Virginia Native
Dr. Nguyen grew up right here in Northern Virginia. After attending Hayfield Secondary School and George Mason University, he went on to study veterinary medicine at The Ohio State University. Though he spent a short time in New York, he knew he wanted to return home to care for pets in his own community.
A Passion for Emergency and Surgery
Dr. Nguyen works primarily as a general practitioner, but he also plays an important role in urgent care and emergency cases at Columbia Pike. He is especially passionate about surgery, with a focus on soft tissue and orthopedic procedures. Dr. Nguyen enjoys the precision, hand-eye coordination, and problem solving that surgery requires, and he takes the time to explain procedures to pet owners so they understand exactly what is happening behind the scenes.
Why He Does What He Does
For Dr. Nguyen, veterinary medicine is about more than science. It is about advocacy. Since pets cannot speak for themselves, he believes his role is to be their voice, to interpret the clues, to communicate with owners, and to find the best path to helping each patient feel better.
Life Outside the Hospital
When he is not caring for pets, you will likely find Dr. Nguyen rock climbing. He enjoys the physical and mental challenge of the sport, and values how it helps him stay healthy and strong.
