Love People. Love Pets. Meet the team that makes it real.

At Town and Country Animal Hospital, we are proud to work alongside an incredible team of veterinarians across our family of sister hospitals. Today, we are excited to introduce you to Dr. Delia Large-Hart, who practices at both Town and Country Animal Hospital and Columbia Pike Animal Hospital & Emergency Center.

A Unique Journey Into Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Large-Hart’s path to becoming a veterinarian was anything but typical. She began her career conducting Parkinson’s research on the human medical side. During that time, she discovered significant overlap between neurological pathways and endocrine diseases such as Cushing’s disease in animals. That connection led her into veterinary research, where she spent 14 years focusing on metabolic and reproductive diseases.

Wanting to expand her hands-on clinical role, she returned to veterinary school at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. There, she developed a strong surgical foundation through extensive practical experience and community outreach programs, including low-cost spay and neuter clinics and wellness initiatives.

Passion for Emergency Medicine and Surgery

Although she originally envisioned working primarily with horses, Dr. Large-Hart discovered a passion for emergency medicine during her internship. She especially loves surgery, where she can combine diagnostic skill, precision, and compassion to directly improve a patient’s quality of life.

For her, one of the most rewarding aspects of veterinary medicine is watching a pet go from illness or injury back to living a full, active life.

Compassion Rooted in Experience

Growing up on a farm surrounded by horses and dogs shaped Dr. Large-Hart’s deep connection to animals. She witnessed firsthand the impact veterinarians had on her family and their animals, and she carries that same sense of responsibility into her work today.

Her empathy allows her to advocate for pets who cannot speak for themselves and to guide families through both joyful and challenging moments with care and understanding.

Life Beyond the Hospital

Outside of work, Dr. Large-Hart enjoys ultramarathon running, including 100-mile races, and riding her five-year-old off-the-track Thoroughbred, Mardi Gras. Whether in the operating room or on a mountain trail, she embraces dedication, resilience, and challenge.

At Town and Country Animal Hospital, we are proud to have Dr. Large-Hart as part of our extended care team, bringing advanced emergency and surgical expertise to the families we serve.

Because they’re family. 🐾
